The South Sudan Project: Restoring Hope, Building Independence

At RMC Ministries, our mission is to show God’s love not just in classrooms, but directly in the streets, homes, and streets of South Sudan. The South Sudan Project is our community outreach program. Every week, our teams step out into the villages, hospitals, and prisons of Eastern Equatoria State to share the Gospel and provide practical relief.
We believe that true, lasting community transformation happens when we serve the whole person. By meeting immediate physical needs, like clean water, nutrition, and healthcare education, alongside spiritual encouragement, we are helping the people of South Sudan build a better future rooted in faith.
The challenge
Decades of conflict and instability have left many South Sudanese families without the most basic necessities of life. In places like Nimule, government facilities are severely under-resourced. For example, the government does not provide daily food to inmates in local prisons, making support from local churches and organizations like RMC Ministries especially important.
In hospitals, many patients face difficult circumstances during hospitalization, creating an important need for practical support, prayer, and encouragement. Meanwhile, access to safe drinking water remains a serious challenge for many rural communities, requiring some families to travel significant distances for water. Without access to job training or technology, people are trapped in a cycle of poverty and dependency. This makes it significantly harder for young people to pursue education, employment, and economic independence.
What we are doing
We believe that hope starts when we show up. RMC Ministries is actively going into the community to meet these physical and spiritual needs through four main areas of service:
Prison Ministries & Food Support: Every Sunday and Wednesday, our team visits the inmates at Nimule Prison to preach, lead discipleship programs, and host evening devotions. To help address the inmates’ need for food and basic supplies, we provide quarterly deliveries of critical food items: flour, beans, cooking oil, and salt, along with soap to maintain basic health and hygiene.
Hospital Visits & Community Health: Every Thursday, our evangelism team visits Nimule Hospital to pray with patients, share the Gospel, and distribute simple, essential gifts like soap and sugar. To promote long-term well-being, we also partner with Nimule Hospital doctors to broadcast weekly health programs over Imprint Radio, educating the community on HIV/AIDS, reproductive health, and preventing gender-based violence.
Clean Water Wells: Access to safe water remains a critical need in many communities across South Sudan. With the help of our donors, RMC Ministries has already built two water wells and plans to construct 13 additional wells in critical locations, helping more families and communities gain reliable access to clean water.
Our Community Computer Center: To give local youth a pathway to economic independence, we opened a new Community Computer Center at our FRM compound. Here, young people who are not enrolled in our full-time academy can receive computer and ICT training.
Impact
Through your generous support, the tangible impact of our community outreach is changing lives every day:
Hope Behind Bars: In July 2026 alone, we reached over 356 inmates at Nimule Prison with God’s Word, delivering a critical food relief shipment of flour, beans, cooking oil, and soap. This builds on our previous outreach where over 900 inmates heard the Gospel.
Comfort for the Sick: Our team prayed for and encouraged over 650 patients at Nimule Hospital in July 2026, bringing them physical relief and spiritual comfort.
Clean Water Access: Our motorized borehole is fully operational, helping reduce the risks associated with unsafe water and easing the daily burden on local mothers and children who no longer have to walk long distances for clean water.
Digital Empowerment: Our new Community Computer Center has already successfully trained and graduated over 80 local community youth in computer skills, equipping them with practical skills that can expand their employment opportunities.
Why it matters
Every individual, regardless of their past or current circumstances, possesses immense human dignity. When we visit a prisoner, pray beside a hospital bed, or drill a water well, we seek to show the people of South Sudan that they are seen, valued, and loved by God.
We are not interested in creating dependency; we want to build independence. By combining spiritual truth with practical tools, like digital literacy and clean water infrastructure, we are working to change the individuals and communities. We are helping communities realize that with faith in Jesus Christ, they can gain the skills, confidence, and opportunities needed to strengthen their communities and contribute to South Sudan’s future.
