Giving Women a Voice: Dignity, education, and opportunity in South Sudan
At RMC Ministries, we believe that every young woman is created in the image of God, with a unique purpose and a voice that deserves to be heard. When our team first arrived on the ground in South Sudan, we quickly witnessed the reality: many young women were being held back from reaching their God-given potential. Through our Giving Women a Voice project, we are creating opportunities for girls and young women to access education, develop practical skills, grow in their faith, and build greater independence.
The challenge
The selling of young women as brides is one of the greatest hardships facing communities in South Sudan today. In the local culture, traditional beliefs often teach that a woman’s only purposes are to bear children and handle household chores. This perspective leads parents to view their daughters primarily as a source of family wealth through dowries. Because of this, families frequently refuse to pay for their daughters’ tuition or basic needs, completely denying them the opportunity to study. Without education or independent options, these young girls are vulnerable to forced marriage and a lifetime of hardship, unable to make choices about their own future.
What we are doing
We believe that every woman deserves to have a choice in her own future. We are working to create a different path for vulnerable girls and young women. The Giving Women a Voice project provides immediate education, protection, and practical opportunities for at-risk girls:
Restoring opportunity through education: We offer free, full academic scholarships to F.I.S.H. Academy, removing financial barriers that might otherwise prevent a girl from continuing her education.
Safe boarding facilities: For girls at risk of early or forced marriage, our on-campus dormitories provide a safe place to live while continuing their education. Here, they can focus fully on their studies and spiritual growth in a protective, loving environment.
Practical skills for independence: Alongside high school academics, we equip young women with vocational skills like tailoring, agriculture, computer training (ICT), and entrepreneurship, giving them practical skills they can use to pursue employment, entrepreneurship, and greater financial independence.
Impact
By standing together with our supporters, we have seen God do incredible things in the lives of South Sudanese women:
Education restored: From 2021 through 2025, a total of 325 vulnerable girls successfully completed high school through free scholarships provided by RMC Ministries.
Girls’ access to education: In our most recent term, F.I.S.H. Academy enrolled 249 students, and 199 of them are girls (80%), with girls representing 80% of the student body, reflecting RMC’s strong commitment to expanding educational opportunities for young women.
Vulnerable lives protected: In our scholarship program, we have supported girls who traveled from as far as the remote Nuba Mountain region to find a safe haven and study.
Equipped for the future: Girls graduating from F.I.S.H. Academy also receive professional training in ICT, agricultural poultry management, and business entrepreneurship.
Leadership development: We actively integrate our graduates back into the ministry as leaders, employing them in the school library, having them manage agricultural projects, or training them to serve as professional radio presenters on Imprint Radio.
Why it matters
Every woman deserves to have a choice in her own future and to be treated with deep human dignity. When a young woman has access to education, practical skills, and greater independence, the impact can extend far beyond her own life. A young woman who is educated and economically independent, is better equipped to support herself, contribute to her family, serve her community, and create new possibilities for the generation that follows. She becomes a voice of hope, proving to the next generation that their circumstances do not define their future.
How you can help
You can help us give a voice to those who have been kept silent. As enrollment applications continue to rapidly rise, our safe spaces are filled to capacity. By partnering with us financially, you can fund a girl’s scholarship, provide her with a safe bed in our dormitories, or help us expand our facilities so that more vulnerable young women can access education, safe accommodation, and opportunity.
Please consider giving today to support the Giving Women a Voice project and help more young women in South Sudan access education, safety, skills, and opportunity.
