Meta Description: Discover how F.I.S.H. Academy, our premier Christian school in South Sudan, transforms young lives through secondary education, vocational training, and safe boarding.
F.I.S.H. Academy: Transforming South Sudan through faith, education, and opportunity
At RMC Ministries, our foundational calling is simple: to reach, to teach, and to change all nations in the name of Jesus Christ. Located in Nimule, South Sudan, F.I.S.H. Academy is at the heart of this mission. More than a secondary school, the Academy provides education, vocational training, spiritual development, and a safe environment where young people can prepare for their future.
By providing a high-quality academic education alongside practical vocational training, biblical discipleship, and leadership development, we prepare young people to lead and strengthen their communities. We believe that lasting transformation begins when we empower the next generation, giving them the spiritual and practical tools they need to build a brighter future. Through F.I.S.H. Academy, we do not just prepare students to navigate the challenges of the world; we equip them with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to strengthen their communities.
The challenge
The educational system within South Sudan is challenging, especially for families who are less fortunate. Unlike many countries where primary and secondary education are publicly funded, attending school in South Sudan is not free. The government charges a tuition fee per child, meaning thousands of young children across the nation lack the financial means to attend school.
For young women, the obstacles are even more devastating. In the local culture, traditional beliefs often limit a woman’s purpose to raising children and performing household chores. Tragically, this perspective leads to many young girls being sold as brides, with parents viewing their daughters primarily as a source of family wealth through dowries. Consequently, families frequently refuse to pay for their daughters’ tuition or basic needs, completely denying them the opportunity to study.
Young boys face their own grave dangers, including the constant threat of being forced into armed conflict. These systemic hardships leave youth throughout the region carrying heavy burdens of mental health issues, deep anxiety, and trauma from years of instability and conflict. Without a safe environment to learn, grow, and heal, an entire generation of South Sudanese youth is left vulnerable to isolation and exploitation.
What we are doing
F.I.S.H. Academy responds to these challenges through a Christian boarding school environment that supports students academically, physically, vocationally, and spiritually.
High school education & entrepreneurship
Alongside academic preparation, F.I.S.H. Academy encourages students to think beyond traditional employment pathways. Our entrepreneurship programs teach practical business principles. When our students graduate, they possess the practical knowledge and confidence to start their own businesses, even as they wait to join a university.
Computer and ICT training
In today’s digital world, computer literacy is an essential gateway to opportunity. At F.I.S.H. Academy, we have established a computer lab where students receive training in Windows 10 & 11, Microsoft Office packages, and essential digital skills. This practical computer training (ICT) is integrated directly into our standard secondary school curriculum and is provided to students at no additional cost. Beyond our student body, we also operate a new Community Computer Center at the FRM compound, which has extended these critical technical skills to over 80 local community youth.
Vocational and trade programs
To foster self-reliance, F.I.S.H. Academy integrates vocational and trade programs into the daily student experience. These include:
Poultry management: Led by Mr. Warran Abraham, students attend weekly classes covering how to raise, vaccinate, and care for chickens. This program teaches vital agricultural business skills and supports the school’s nutritional needs.
Piggery project: We started raising 3 adult pigs and 7 piglets to teach practical livestock husbandry while serving as a long-term income-generating stream for the school.
Agriculture and gardens: Students grow vegetables in our school gardens, teaching sustainable farming while directly improving daily school nutrition.
Tailoring and technology: Students learn practical trades, such as tailoring, which give them immediate pathways to economic independence.
Safe Dormitories and girls’ scholarships
For young women at risk of forced marriage, F.I.S.H. Academy provides free academic scholarships and safe boarding facilities. On-campus accommodation provides girls at risk of forced marriage with a safe environment where they can continue their education and focus on their future.
Leadership development & spiritual discipleship
We believe that academic knowledge without a spiritual foundation is incomplete. F.I.S.H. Academy prioritizes biblical education and daily discipleship to build strong, Christ-centered character. Our school chaplain leads morning fellowships every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and we gather for a Friday evening prayer devotion. We also host visiting speakers who provide ongoing personal mentoring, career guidance, and leadership development.
To build unity and heal cultural divisions, we established our school Peace Club. This club brings together students from highly diverse backgrounds, teaching them to resolve conflicts, cooperate, and build a unified future grounded in God-centered peace.
Dedicated staff and infrastructure development
Every day, our students are supported by a devoted team of qualified teachers, a school nurse, a chaplain, a librarian, cooks, and security guards who provide day and night protection.
Furthermore, we are constantly working to improve our infrastructure to serve South Sudan for generations. We recently completed a new motorized borehole on the South Sudan property, which provides safe, clean water directly to our students and neighboring communities, helping reduce the risks associated with unsafe water and easing the daily burden on local families. We are also developing a new 10-hectare school campus in South Sudan, where we discovered a natural water spring and are currently building a reservoir and pumping system to distribute water to local residents.
Impact
By the grace of God and the faithful support of our donors, the impact of F.I.S.H. Academy is visible in the transformed lives of hundreds of South Sudanese youth:
Growing enrollment: In our most recent term, our school enrollment reached 249 active students. Demonstrating our deep commitment to girls’ education in South Sudan, 199 of these students are girls (80%), while 50 are boys (20%).
Academic success: In December 2025, F.I.S.H. Academy celebrated the graduation of 79 high school students. Each graduate successfully completed their academic requirements and received certified training in ICT, entrepreneurship, and poultry management.
Girls’ education: From 2021 through 2025, a total of 325 vulnerable girls successfully completed their high school education through free scholarships provided by RMC Ministries. In addition, we have previously supported 45 highly vulnerable students with dedicated scholarships, including 36 girls (some of whom traveled from the remote Nuba Mountain region to study) and 9 boys.
Alumni integration: We actively integrate our top-performing alumni directly back into RMC Ministries, employing them in the school library, having them manage our poultry projects, and training them to serve as professional radio presenters for Imprint Radio.
Community computer literacy: Our newly established Community Computer Center at the FRM compound has already successfully trained and graduated over 80 youth in computer skills, expanding access to digital skills within the local community.
Livestock and sustainability: Our poultry project is thriving under student and alumni care. The proceeds are directly reinvested to purchase feed and maintain the farm, while chickens are also used to provide high-quality protein for the school and radio ministry. Additionally, our new piggery project is active, raising pigs & piglets.
Clean water access: Our motorized borehole is fully operational, providing safe, clean water to students and neighboring community members daily.
Why it matters
By combining academic education, vocational skills, entrepreneurship, ICT training, and biblical discipleship, F.I.S.H. Academy prepares young people for life beyond the classroom. Students leave with practical skills they can use to pursue employment, continue their education, start businesses, serve their churches, and contribute to their communities.
For RMC Ministries, education is not only about individual achievement. It is an investment in young people who can become responsible, skilled, Christ-centered leaders within South Sudan.
How you can help
This vital work is only possible because of partners like you who choose to stand with the resilient people of South Sudan. As our enrollment applications continue to rapidly increase, our campus has become very limited. We urgently need your help to fund our current expansion plans.
Your financial partnership will directly support:
Expanding dormitory space: Building new, safe boarding facilities so we can accept more vulnerable girls who are seeking refuge from forced marriage.
Expanding kitchen and cafeteria space: Increasing our dining facilities to comfortably feed our growing student body.
Scholarship sponsorships: Funding tuition, uniforms, and learning materials for the many children who are still on our waiting lists, hoping for a chance to study.
Campus infrastructure: Supporting the development of our 10-hectare school campus, including completing our water distribution reservoir and pumping systems to share water with even more local residents.
When you invest in F.I.S.H. Academy, you invest in education, opportunity, and a new generation of young people equipped to strengthen South Sudan’s future. Please consider partnering with us as we continue reaching, teaching, and serving young people in South Sudan.
